There are some stories you can read about.
And then there are stories you have the rare chance to hear from someone who was actually there.
In July 1976, more than 100 Israeli and Jewish hostages were being held at Entebbe Airport in Uganda, thousands of miles from Israel. What followed became one of the most remarkable hostage-rescue operations in modern history.
Sasson “Sassy” Reuven didn’t learn the story from a book.
He was part of it.
Serving in an elite IDF paratrooper unit, Sassy was called from the Golan Heights to join the mission. He flew through the night aboard a Hercules C-130 into hostile territory and was among the first soldiers out onto the runway at Entebbe.
This Friday night, he’ll take us inside the operation in his own words: the preparation, the uncertainty, the flight to Uganda, the moments on the ground, and the return home with the rescued hostages.
And you’ll hear it around the Shabbat table.
Over dinner, wine and the warmth of Friday night, we’ll have the opportunity to sit with someone who experienced a chapter of Jewish history that most of us have only encountered from a distance.
