CHABAD MERCER ISLAND

Chabad Mercer Island is founded on the principle that, while people embrace many levels of observance in their personal lives, there should be a place for no labels, and all affiliations. A place where people can  develop a sense of community and enhance their own spiritual experiences of Judaism.

Chabad Mercer Island has successfully catered to dozens of families from all backgrounds, offering educational programming in an accepting and innovative setting where all feel welcome.  The goal is to create a positive Jewish experience for everyone as they strengthen their ties to the Jewish community.

Chabad Mercer Island  is a place where everyone is
welcome - regardless of affiliation or level of knowledge. Our sole purpose is to create a warm welcoming environment to explore and experience our heritage and Judaism's warm and relevant spiritual inspirations in a non-judgmental and inviting atmosphere.

  THE KORNFELD'S

Rabbi Nissan & Mushka Kornfeld founded Chabad Mercer Island in the fall of 2015. Along with their two children Shaina and Shaya they have served the island through unique programming, care and community.

Nissan grew up right here in the Seattle area watching his parents inspire thousands in Jewish thought and practice in their capacity as emissaries of the Lubavitcher Rebbe as they continue to do so through the Island Synagogue.

Mushka hails from Montreal, Canada where her childhood years offered her the unique opportunity to be nurtured in the amazing Hampstead Jewish community. Observing her parents found and grow the Montreal Torah Center serving Jews of all ages and from all backgrounds. Taking the inspiration to heart, she headed schools, programs and camps across the globe prior to marrying and settling with her new family on Mercer Island.

Shaina and Shaya are proud ambassadors of love, kindness and joy in contributing to the growth of Chabad Mercer Island.

INSPIRATION

The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, of righteous memory (1902-1994), the seventh leader in the Chabad-Lubavitch dynasty, is considered to have been the most phenomenal Jewish personality of modern times. To hundreds of thousands of followers and millions of sympathizers and admirers around the world, he was — and still is, despite his passing — "theRebbe," undoubtedly, the one individual more than any other singularly responsible for stirring the conscience and spiritual awakening of world Jewry.

Chabad Mercer Island is driven by the inspiration and teachings of the Rebbe.

“Each individual has the capacity to build communities and endow communities with life . . . so that every community member becomes a source of inspiration”
